I remember waking up Thursday morning to get ready for class but as I woke up I noticed how different the sky looked. It was very cloudy with no sun and it felt gloomy. At first I didn't think much of it, I thought maybe it was going to rain or a storm was coming. When I took a step outside I noticed something different, it smelled as if something were burning nearby. As the day went by the sky kept getting more and more grey and then with an orange tint to it and at that point I knew something was wrong. I went on my socials and saw that a "Camp Fire" had begun in Paradise which is not that far from Chico.
Once I was aware of this I was making sure to check the updates on it. Once it was the afternoon the air quality was worst than it was earlier in the day and so I noticed that not many students were attending class. Due to the camp fire being so near to us here at Chico State our school president Gale Hutchison decided to cancel classes for the following the day. The air quality here at Chico was becoming worst as the hours went by so many people were going home.I was a bit scared at the thought of having to evacuate if Chico were told to because that would mean that I would have to as well with nowhere for me to go so instead I called my parents and asked them if they could please pick me up and that is what they did. Before the night was over I was able to leave Chico and make my way back to my hometown-Richmond.
With the Camp Fire spreading more as the days passed, classes were cancelled for the folllowing week meaning that I had a total of two weeks off for winter break. It did feel nice being able to be home with my family for those two days but in the back of my head I still had the thought for those who were affected by the fire. Paradise was a small town and now it is all gone due to the fire. Many were injured, some people have gone missing, and some people even passed away all from it. It is sad knowing what this catastrophic fire has done. Those who were affected must be going through a rough time right now and I hope they receive all the help they need to find a new home and be in a safe environment. My condolences are there for those affected.
